I read a story today about a cafe owner who posted a photo of a huge mess that a Mom and her two young children made in her restaurant.
And apparently now Mothers all over the USA are sending her snotty notes.
This just appalls me.
My daughter has NEVER made a mess in a restaurant where Bing or I didn't clean it up. I understand that children are messy. But, it is, in my opinion, the duty of the parent to clean up after them in a restaurant until they are old enough to help clean up.
From the time that Liv was five, she was expected to be tidy in a restaurant, to stack her silverware neatly on her plate when she was finished eating.
I have been in many, many restaurants where parents seemed to think it was okay to let their children run wild. Once, my sister and I were in a restaurant where we witnessed two sets of parents, one with a bratty toddler. And by bratty, I don't mean that he just wouldn't sit still. Two year olds are not expected to be able to sit still. By bratty, I mean that I watched him slap his Mother twice across the face and screamed at the top of his lungs until the Father finally just let him out of the booth and let him get into the empty booth behind them and jump up and down and pull his Mother's hair. I then witnessed him sucking on the salt shaker. He sat perched on the table, his dirty shoes digging into the top of it.
The group finally left (thank you, baby hey zeus!), leaving an unbelievable mess that this child had made at the table. When the table cleaner was trying to clean up the slop, I walked over and told him about the table behind theirs that the child had already turned into a germ factory.
And tipped him five bucks because NO ONE should have to clean up that shit. It was the PARENTS who should have cleaned it up.
So, I'm asking you. How do you weigh in? Do you agree with Mothers all over America who seem to think it is fine to let their child(ren) run wild in restaurants? Or do you think the parent was in error?
I feel for the cafe owner. Seriously. Absolute bad manners on the part of the Mother.
