What is something that is not fair?
That the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
I've noticed this more and more as I age. People who stand in line patiently are NOT rewarded. But the customer who loudly complains and starts making a fuss? They get instant attention.
Same thing everywhere. My daughter is currently taking a math class. One of her classmates is a very smart girl but she is disruptive and strongly needs undivided attention. Liv says that the class goes on pause at least four times a session so that the instructor can attend to this one child.
When I am in traffic, it never fails to astonish me that someone will lay on his/her horn when the person in front of them has no choice. There is a pedestrian, etc. and what would you like them to do, honker? Run them over? But, you can bet that the SECOND it is clear the person in front of them will hurriedly move.
I am not fond of squeaky wheels.

Don't worry, karma will make sure that the "squeaky wheel" gets exactly what he deserves.

Good people who die young.
indeed.
Nor am I. I have often contemplated falling to the floor in a faint or tantrum, whichever would get my problem tended to where patience does not. But I don't because I am not a squeaky wheel at heart. Such people are bullies who suck up far more than their share of the world's energy.
I used to look around me and think that everyone was happy but me...that everyones lives were wonderful except for mine and that is SO not true.
Life isn't fair and EVERYONE has crappy things going on in their lives.
I bet you were taught to be patient and keep to the shoulder to the wheel! Seriously, I think some people are impatient by temperment, some have "issues,' some are selfish and thoughtless (vs thoughtful), and some were taight to squeak. But frustrating, yes. Wasn't sure of your question... something we personally experience as unfair? Zc
I am a squeaky wheel when I am having a problem that thusfar hasn't been resolved; i.e, over billing with the cable company.
The people you described are just petulant assholes.
:)
Yeh you're right, it's like rewarding bad behaviour and punishing those who do the right thing. Can't stand it!
I never think it's fair when I have to pay for the bad choices that others make.
YES!!! I came to a similar realization recently as I looked at people who seem to have a knack for getting things done. I'm trying to find a balance between being that squeaky wheel, which simply isn't in my nature and putting a bit more shoulder to it, as another commenter mentioned.
i happened to watch "on the fly" for the first time last night... new-to-me show on TLC. about airplanes/airports and mostly horribly entitled a**holish customers making angry demands. wow. talk about squeaky wheels! makes the person complaining in line at the grocery store less annoying, that's for sure. i canNOT believe how well those customer service agents handled things! fyi, last week, i was in kmart... was in line behind a squeaky wheel who was being just AWFUL to the clerk. she went on and on and on about how horrible HE PERSONALLY was. and here's where the petty side of me comes out. she was buying various things, including "body sprays" with the name of "body fantasy." she was a large, let's just say it... unattractive woman. after she left, i told him, she'd need more than that for anyone to have a fantasy about her body. she sort of laughed but not much. then i just started saying how undeserved that was and taht we are all human and deserve respect. then he visibly responded. you could just see him fill back up a bit. when i walked out to the parking lot, i was behidn the wheel and her sidekick. they went up to minivan and teh wheel squeeled. her little dog (of couse she would have a little dog... i'm sorry but she was totally little dog person... i mean little... because they are the squeakiest!)... and there was a very handsome young man in there who looked like he could be her son... and again, i'm sorry if i'm stereotyping but an SFer... he looked very queenie as had the clerk. he also looked long-suffering. she was obviously a miserable woman who felt disempowered in her own life... gets a lot out of that relationship with her little dog... and probably has no sensual life aside from that body spray and overeating. i felt bad for her but worse for the clerk. i have been rude in stores also and always feel bad later. what is my point? sometimes people are idiots! generally out of immaturity or woundedness... but when they are, it causes more wounds.

I think it's unfair that children have to suffer from horrible illnesses. It sucks that anyone has to suffer like that, but it really cuts me to the core when I see/hear about really, really sick kids. I just hate that.
When I was growing up, the vast majority of people I knew owned their own homes. I can actually still remember the first friends I had who lived in an apartment. It's not fair that it is the opposite now- that fewer and fewer people are able to buy a home today.
it depends on what you think of as the reward
:)
oh and..for Destingirls
everyone has WONDERFUL things going on in their lives.
you are everyone.
choose what you see.
Some day, the squeaky wheel will get his. What's so great about grease anyway?!?
It sounds like that poor math student gets no attention at home.
But sometimes the quiet wheel gets the peace. ~Mary
One of the most difficult lessons we have to learn in life, and need to teach our children, is that whether we like it or not, life is clearly not fair. Good people don't always win, bad people don't always lose. I hate squeeky wheels who believe that life is all about them and demand constant attention. Speaking out when change is needed, that's another issue, but it's timed and not a constant drain on everyone else. I once read a poem that asked if justice was harder to make than a world, I ask the same question about fairness. Everything in my heart and mind tells me life should be fair... but it isn't.
